Thursday Thirteen: 13 Things I Want To Accomplish This Weekend

I have a couple of things in mind I’d like to do while enjoying the sand and sea this weekend. Here are some of them:

01. Get a good and even tan.

02. Gain new acquaintances…better yet, friends.

03. Improve my network of people.

04. Enjoy people watching.

05. Enjoy the place’s famous sunset.

06. Discover for myself the reason why there’s so much buzz about the calamansi muffins.

07. Meet up with an old college friend.

08. Enjoy the famous fruit shakes.

09. Get my hair braided.

10. Get a massage.

11. Shop.

12. Enjoy the night life.

13. Let my hair down and have fun!

My checklist for the weekend

I already have the itinerary for this weekend’s beach getaway. I was surprised to see who the trip sponsor was and I can’t wait to get started and packed.

Two of my colleagues/friends were gracious enough to help me pick some decent beach attire for this weekend’s trip. It was my first time to ever shop for beach attire and since I don’t have a beach body to be proud of, it was extremely difficult for me to find the perfect beach wear.

But of course, patience pays off and I finally brought 2 small shopping bags home with me – ready to be packed.

Okay…okay…I’m that excited!!!!

I wrote down my checklist for this trip so that I’ll be able to limit myself to just bring the necessary things. However, like in most instances and situations, being a big girl doesn’t help. A lot of my clothes are heavy and bulky. It’s one of the downsides to being “voluptuous.” But my previous traveling experiences have taught me the art of packing these bulky pieces without going over the baggage limit. Aside from the checklist, I have a blueprint in my mind of what to pack and what to do with the stuff I’m bringing with me.

It’s starting to sink in and I can’t deny the fact that I’m so looking forward to this trip.

Wednesday Wickedness: Brad Pitt

1. “I’ve got a hard time with morals. All I know is what feels right, what’s more important to me is being honest about who you are. Morals I get a little hung up on.” Do you ever have a hard time with morals?
** No. To each his own. For as long as they respect mine, I don’t have a problem with theirs.

2. “Being married means I can [break wind] and eat ice cream in bed.” Do you eat in bed? If yes, what?
** Yes I do. Cookies and water – usually!

3. “I phoned my grandparents and my grandfather said ‘we saw your movie’. ‘Which one?’ I said. He shouted ‘Betty, what was the name of that movie I didn’t like?” What was the last movie you hated and why?
** I didn’t really like Clash of the Titans. Why? It was just too unbelievable for me.

4. “We made a plan at school to meet in her garage and kiss. It was like this little business deal. I kissed her and then I ran home.” Did you make ‘a plan’ the first time you made love or did it just happen?
** It just happened.

5. “You must lose everything in order to gain anything.” Have you ever felt that you lost it all? If yes, explain.
** Yes. I lost it all because I let this person take everything I have. I gave too much so I lost that much.

6. “We did a little training in the beginning, … But again, these guys aren’t supposed to be skilled fighters.” When were you last time that you were in a fight (physical or not)?
** Just a week ago – with the ex-husband.

7. “My week consists … five days out of the seven I’ve got at least three cars of paparazzi on me that I’ve got to either lose or whatever.” Have you ever been stalked?
** Yes.

8. “I mean, that’s the modified self-help version of the psychology, I guess.” Do you believe in ‘self help’ for problems, or do you prefer therapy?
** A combination of both helps but I usually just go and reach out to my friends when I need help.

9. “Fame is a bitch, man.” Do you agree that fame is lousy or would you love to give it a try? Why?
** Fame is okay for as long as you don’t get all caught up in it. It would sure be nice to give it a try – just to satisfy my curiosity.

10. “I have always been somebody that really wants to be married. And I don’t know if that’s just so I can do it differently than my parents did and prove marriage does work.” Do you believe in forever, as in ‘love forever’?
** I believe that there’s love forever. I just don’t know if I’m cut out for it.

A few more days

I can’t hide the excitement and this is just good news that can’t be kept for long.

Finally it can now be said….

I’m going to spend the weekend at a fine beach! And I mean a really, really fine one! 🙂

Now that’s really something to look forward to this coming weekend.

Manic Monday #209

If you could write your own bill of rights, what would you include?
** I’ll include giving a permanent gag order for people who can’t say anything good about others.

What is going on in the world today that affects you the most?
** The fact that the effects of climate change are already being felt – and at a rapid pace.

What do you think is the secret to a good life?
** Having respect for others and having peace of mind.

My Brother…The Passionate Author

I was crying on the way to the airport from my brother’s home in Bintaro because that was the end of my 5-day visit to Indonesia which turned out to be one of the best travels I’ve had so far in my 34 years of life.

You see, my father left a son in Indonesia 3 years before I was born. I only learned about him when they first met about 10 years ago. Instead of questioning the fact or even getting mad at my father, I was more interested to get to know and meet the brother I never saw and met. Suffice it to say, I was more excited rather than cynical about it and I thought…”another addition to the family ain’t really that bad.”

We weren’t really that in touch all these years. But we would exchange text messages, e-mails or sometimes make phone calls to ask how he and his family are doing. It was only 4 years ago when I finally got to meet him in the flesh.

During my recent trip to his homeland, Indonesia, I got to get a feel of what it’s like to be immersed in their culture. But more than the experience of being able to travel again and get my pictures taken, I was able to see how passionate my brother is in the things that he do. I learned about his struggles and how he bounced back from all that is one of the things I admired more about him.

I was so disappointed when I failed to show up in his book launch last March due to some circumstances beyond my control. It would’ve been an honor for me to be part of such a memorable and historical event for the family.

More than a month after the launch, the book has trended very well on Twitter and Facebook and is selling like hotcakes in major Indonesian bookstores. I know that a reprint is already in the works.

We are very proud of you, dear brother. I wish you could share your passion to the Filipinos real soon.
