Too lazy

I really didn’t have a blast of a weekend but at least I did something else aside from catching up on sleep and food.

I still haven’t adjusted to the night shift and I’m hoping I’ll be able to do fully do so this week.

December’s almost here and a lot of things are happening. I can’t believe that 2010’s nearing the homestretch. Looking at my calendar, I would probably accept most invitations so that means my social life’s bouncing back from the dead. No dates – just plain catching up with friends (old and new) and family. Dates can wait. If it happens, it will happen.

In the meantime, I have to get out of this rut and start preparing for my day. It’s just weird that I’m preparing for breakfast and work at 5pm while most people are either lounging on their couches watching TV or just plain doing nothing.

I hope everyone’s gonna have a wonderful week. I’m looking forward to one, too.

Monday Mayhem: Give Us Your Shopping Tips

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, we want to hear your shopping tips for the situations below.

Have fun!

1. You mention to your neighbor, with the body odor, that you are heading out to the mall in the morning. Neighbor asks to go with. What do you say?
** Oh geez! I’ll just try to make up some lame excuse to be late for that shopping trip.

2. You go up and down every aisle in the parking lot until you finally scope out that perfect place. You patiently pull over to the side and put your signal on to wait for the person pulls out. Someone snags your spot before you can pull in. What do you do?
** Depends on what mood I’m in. Highly-likely, I’ll confront the driver. If not, I’ll just give him or her a very dirty look and shout from my car and then find another place. It’s not gonna be worth the effort and stress.

3. You find that perfect sweater for grandpa and it’s the last one in that size. Some lady with three screaming kids approaches you and asks for the sweater for her husband who is deployed in Iraq. What do you do?
** I’ll give it. I’ll find something else for my grandfather.

4. You found the perfect gift for your best friend and you notice that there are no less than 100 people in line in front of you. Unfortunately, you just drank 3 cups of coffee before you entered the store. What do you do?
** I’ll give it up. I really don’t have the patience to wait that long.

5. You’re within 10 people of the checkout after waiting in line for 40 minutes and the person in front of you lets three people in line- he was just saving the spot. What do you do?
** That’s gonna be war!

6. You get to the check out and your card is declined. What do you do?
** Pay in cash. I make sure that I have cash in hand for emergencies.

7. Oops…you forgot to buy something for Aunt Edna. Do you regift the fruit cake George from next door gave you?
** I don’t really regift but it can be an option nowadays.

8. Are you planning on doing most of your shopping in the stores or online this year?
** Can I just do online shopping? The malls are too crowded! Too bad, online shopping isn’t that acceptable out here – just yet.

It’s a brand new week. Have a great one!

Sunday Stealing: The Baker’s Meme

1. If you could interview anyone on your blog (alive or dead) who would you chose and why?
** I’d like to interview our country’s President. I don’t like him so probably this will be my chance to at least get to know him and probably get to like him after.

2. What do you feel is your strength as a blogger?
** As much as possible, I always do my best to write from my heart.

3. Can you share a little bit about yourself that you have not already mentioned on your blog?
** I don’t think there’s still a thing I haven’t blogged about my life. It’s pretty much all out.

4. If you were forced to change the name of your blog, what would you change it to? Why?
** Nah…I don’t think I will.

5. What do you think is the most fulfilling part of being a blogger?
** After I write, I feel better. And nowadays, you get to meet a lot of people in real life and online just by blogging.

6. What would you do with your last day if you found you had only one more day to live?
** I guess I would be lying if I’d say that I won’t get the best fat burners to help me lose weight at an instant. And then I’ll spend time with my family by traveling and going to places that we can go to for a day.

7. You’ve been doing medical research for decades and have finally found a cure. What was it that you found a cure for and why did you choose this particular ailment?
** Cancer. A lot of my family members died from it so that’s probably my one and only reason.

8. What is your most guilty pleasure?
** Eating yummy pastries.

9. Answer only one. What is your favorite book, movie or TV show?
** Dirty Dancing

10. What do you think is the very best smell in the world? The one smell that can take you back to a time and place of a very vivid memory in your past?
** The smell of that fresh pine tree inside my home when I was in Canada.

Sunday…it’s the last day of the weekend…enjoy it my friends!

Saturday 9: Dark Lady

1. Have you ever been to a fortune teller? If yes, what happened?
** I’ve been told of interesting things and thoughts. It’s nice to know some things but that’s all there is to that.

2. How do you cope in an uncomfortable social situation?
** I do my best to look comfortable and just think of a way to get out of the situation.

3. A genie appears (of course). She asks, “If you had 3 wishes but each took 3 years off your life, what would you wish for and why?”
** (1) Give DS and my family a financially-secured future; (2) That my parents will live longer lives; and (3) find a life partner whom I’ll be truly happy with – one who will love and care for me and DS unconditionally.

4. Would you rather lose your soul mate or never meet them at all?
** I don’t think I’d like to meet my soul mate.

5. What is the hardest thing that you have ever had to do?
** Give up some things like my own happiness so that other people would be happy.

6. Have you ever had a miracle happen to you or your loved ones?
** Yes. God is good, indeed.

7. Tell us about a quote that you can relate to. Why can you relate with it?:
** This was a quote from Marilyn Monroe and have placed this on my Facebook account: “Everything happens for a reason, people change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so you can appreciate them when they’re right, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can come together.” This is just so true about life. And I came across this quote during the time that I was so pre-occupied with a lot of troubling things.

8. What personality trait has gotten you into the most trouble?
** I’m too trusting.

9. For those in The States, how was your Turkey Day? If not from the US, do you celebrate a day like Thanksgiving?
** It’s just basically Christmas for us.

Enjoy the weekend!

Expecting Disappointment

It was only today that I realized that I was disappointed with somebody – truly disappointed actually. I tried to deny the fact that I was disappointed until I went to sleep and woke up with that thought still bugging me. So I guess it’s just but right for me to rant so I could let it all go and move on.

I have all the right to feel this way because this person was the one who set up everything but forgot all about it. I wouldn’t go into the gory details. I just want to say that no matter how much the arrangement made me smile earlier in the week, this person failed me big time. And for whatever reason it was, failing to keep a commitment is not a good thing at all, especially if you failed to keep that commitment with me.

I should have expected disappointment coming my way and probably with this person, I should always do. And I will not be apologetic for saying my thoughts out loud this time.

Rock ‘n Roll Fridays: Led Zeppelin

1. BLACK DOG “Take too long before I found out, what people mean by down and out. Spent my money, took my car…”
When was the last time you were down and out?
** I had some problems that started last August and intensified towards September and October. I’m feeling much better now.

2. DAZED AND CONFUSED “Oh I don’t like when you’re mystifyin’ me. Oh don’t leave me so confused, now whoa baby. Been dazed and confused for so long…”
What leaves you dazed and confused?
** People who don’t know what they want.

3. FOOL IN THE RAIN “Another 10 minutes no longer, and then I’m turnin around. The clock on the wall’s moving slower, oh my heart it sinks to the ground…”
Have you ever been “stood up”?
** I think that would be today! LOL!

4. IMMIGRANT SONG “On we sweep with, with threshing oar. Our only goal will be the western shore. So now you better stop and rebuild all your ruins…”
How do you feel about immigration into the USA?
** I don’t get it sometimes. Even getting a visitor’s visa is very hard when all I really wanted to do when I travel to the US is to see the sights. But maybe if I become a Domestic Abuse Attorney, I might be able to get in and finally be able to tick some of the things off my bucket list. LOL!

5. KASHMIR “I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been. To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen…”
Have you ever visited someone in a nursing (old age) home?
** Yes during one of our immersion projects. I can’t go back there anymore. I cannot stand the fact that old people are left alone by their families.

6. MISTY MOUNTAIN HOP “Crowds of people sittin on the grass with flowers in their hair said Hey boy, do you wanna score?”…
Have you ever done something because of “peer” pressure?
** Smoking was one but never drugs.

7. RAMBLE ON “A ramble on, and now’s the time the time is now. Sing my song, I’m goin round the world to find my girl”
Where is the oddest place you went to on a date?
** Hmmm, so far, no one has brought me to an odd place.

8. ROCK N ROLL “Ho, it’s been a long time since we walked in the moonlight, a-makin vows that just can’t work right, haw haw, yeah yeah open your arms, open your arms, open your arms, let my love come runnin in…”
What’s the last romantic thing you did (besides sexual)?
** Sent someone a gift for Thanksgiving.

9. STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN “There’s a lady who’s sure, all that glitters is gold, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven…”
What did you last buy? Was it on Black Friday?
** Ingredients for a pasta dish and no it wasn’t on a Black Friday.

10. THANK YOU “If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. If the mountains should crumble to the sea, there would still be you and me…”
What is the longest relationship you have ever had?
** With my ex-husband, total of 6 years being together.

11. THE LEMON SONG “I work as hard as I can-a. I bring home my money, you take my money, give it to another man. I should have quit you baby-a such a long time ago…”
Have you ever loaned money to someone?
** Yes.

12. THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME “You don’t know what you’re missin now. Any little song that you know. Everything that’s small has to grow. And it has to grow!”
Do you have plants in your house?
** No. They’ll just die on me.

13. WHOLE LOTTA LOVE “You’ve been learnin and baby I been learnin, all them good times, baby baby I’ve been discernin…”
What is the last class or course you studied?
** Law and I still have to finish it.

Happy Friday to all!

Thursday 13 #97: 13 Things I Want To Do Before Christmas

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends and family in the US. And not to forget, my blogging friends who have been visiting me since Day 1 of this blog.

But since we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving out here, I just decided to write something about what I’d like to do before Christmas.

01. I’ve been told about an outdoor hot tub spa. I wonder how it works and how it feels like to use it. Do you think it would be as relaxing as the usual spa service that we know?

02. I’ve been missing out on a lot of movies the past couple of months so I’d like to be able to see some of those movies I missed and the more current ones.

03. I’d like to be able to adjust to the night shift. It just sucks that by 1 or 2am, I’m already drifting to sleep.

04. I want to go out and have a true vacation.

05. Get to lose at least 5 pounds before the start of the holidays.

06. I’d like to have my Christmas list completed and my holiday cards sent out by 1st week of December.

07. I’d like to update all my bills.

08. I’d like to be able to get a sofa set for my very bare living room.

09. Re-organize my photos – that is, have them printed, sorted and placed in an album.

10. Re-organize my digital scrapbooking kits – something I’ve been very remiss in doing for the past year.

11. I’d like to get myself some new stuff – shoes, bags and clothes.

12. I’d like to get myself one mean gadget – the MacBook Pro.

13. I’d like to get my living room a wonderful home theater set.

I guess that’s all I have for this week. To my US-based friends and family, enjoy the weekend, especially the Black Friday sales 🙂

Love for books

I still immensely enjoy going to bookstores. I love the smell of new books and the anticipation of looking for the perfect book for those days when you don’t want to do anything but just lie down and read.

Bookstores and libraries used to be the coolest hangouts, at least for me. The library offers cheap textbook rental for those who can’t afford to buy new textbooks and sometimes you can even borrow for free if it’s not your own school’s library. Bookstores carry thousands of titles that will surely make you go places without even spending a fortune for it.

My first investment for DS was a set of books. He enjoyed flipping the pages and seeing all the enticing pictures of animals and what-have-you’s. But he never really got my love for books. He likes to read but he’s not one who’d gobble up and read books for hours. And how I wish he could acquire my love for books.

No matter how hi-tech our reading materials are nowadays, I still prefer making that trip to the bookstore to buy the perfect book. Reading books from cover-to-cover is still an achievement I love to brag about. There are places I’ve been to and things I’ve done only because of the books I’ve read. And that’s a wonderful thing!

Wednesday Wickedness: Judy Garland

1. “Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.”
Have you ever realized that you were trying to be like someone else?
** Probably there have been instances but I’m not really aware of them.

2. “Behind every cloud is another cloud.”
Are you more optimistic or pessimistic about things?
** As much as possible, I do my best to be optimistic about things and people as well.

3. “How strange when an illusion dies. It’s as though you’ve lost a child.”
Tell us about a time when you realized your perception of reality was an illusion.
** It can hurt a lot and you’ll be devastated.

4. “I’ve never looked through a keyhole without finding someone was looking back.”
Have you ever felt someone was watching you a bit too closely?
** Yes and it creeps the hell out of me.

5. “If you have to be in a soap opera try not to get the worst role.”
Have you ever had a job that you were embarrassed by?
** No…I guess.

6. ‘In the silence of night I have often wished for just a few words of love from one man, rather than the applause of thousands of people.”
Do you feel that you need a lover to make you feel “whole”?
** I guess I was that before but now, I have a totally different outlook about being “whole.”

7. “If I am a legend, then why am I so lonely?”
Tell us about a time when you felt lonely.
** Don’t get me wrong. I love it that I’m single but there are times when it just sinks in that you want to do certain things with the people close to you and you can’t because they’re not there. There are things that you can only enjoy when you’re with someone. The person doesn’t necessarily have to be a partner though.

8. “I can live without money, but I cannot live without love.”
Would you rather be rich and alone or live with love from a lover?
** That’s a tough one. I’d go for the first though. LOL!

9. “I try to bring the audience’s own drama – tears and laughter they know about – to them.”
Tell us about the last movie that you saw where you could feel the drama as though you were living it.
** I can barely remember the title. Sorry.

10. “I was born at the age of twelve on an MGM lot.”
What was your life like at 12?
** Studies were the core of my life.

I hope everyone’s having a nice mid-week!

Welcome to the night shift

After more than two-and-a-half years of living the normal life, I am back to working on the night shift.

I barely made it through the night as I was literally half awake during the whole shift. It was my body speaking to me that I needed to rest. I fought really hard to keep myself awake and I’m glad will power succeeded over what my body wanted.

I just hope tonight will be a different story. We’ll see about that.

But for now, I’ll have to get used to the fact that my social life will further decline, that I’ll be able to see less of my friends, invitations for dinners will probably be rejected, that my phone will be practically useless and that my weekends will render me useless because I’ll be hibernating into deep slumber to catch up on much-needed sleep.

Again, welcome me to the night shift! LOL!
